3rdIKO Matsushima World Open Kyokushin Karate Tournament among men (absolute category) was held on November 29-30 2008 in town Isesaki (Japan). At the same time 3rd IKO Matsushima World Open Kyokushin Karate Tournament among women in different weight categories was also held.
Delegation of Ukrainian Kyokushin Budo Karate Federation consisted of head of our Federation Volynets Dmutro (4 dan), executive director Tereshkevych Vitaliy, Shihan Gnutov Evgeniy (5 dan, Sensei Pyatachenko Sergiy (3 dan). Ukrainian team consisted of the following sportsmen: Savochkin Roman, Doronin Sergiy, Bugayov Pavlo, Sayenko Volodymyr, Shalunov Pavlo, Terehov Anton, Dudina Maryna, Korol Tetyana, Zhegar Svitlana.
We congratulate our sportsmen with successful participation in the tournament!
Zhegar Svitlana (Mykolayiv) won the 2nd place in the weight category below 60 kg. In the semi-final she won fight with Russian fighter Kukarina Anna, who won world championship in 2004. Svitlana’s team-mate Korol Tamara (Mykolayiv) also won 2ndplace in the weight category above 65 kg. In a hard and equal final fight her opponent was the winner of World Cup 2006. We congratulate trainers of these two fighters – Ozerov Denys and Glushko Vitaliy.
We also congratulate Dudina Maryna (Alushta, AR Crimea) and her trainer Pyatachenko Sergiy with the 5th place in the weight category below 60 kg.
In tournament among men the competitors had hard and very tense fights. Sportsmen from 33 countries competed in heavy-weight category. Shihabanov Anzor (Russia) became the champion. Ukrainian sportsman Doronin Sergiy (trainer Lukyanchikov Sergey, Donetsk) fought very well. He lost only in semi-final, fighter from Iran was better. Because of the received injury Sergiy was unable to compete for the 3rd place.
On December 1st Kancho Yoshikazu Matsushima held a seminar for sportsmen with black belts. More than 150 sportsmen from different countries participated in the seminar.
